Galway Boxer Slapped With Eight-Month Ban For Weigh-In Altercation

Galway boxer Peter McDonagh has learned his fate for the role he played in the chaotic weigh-in scene prior to his fight with Shayne Singleton back in September.

McDonagh and Singleton had a clear beef in the buildup to this encounter and although the Irishman came away from the ten-rounder with a close decision victory, he must now face the wrath of the British Boxing Board of Control.

World Boxing News are reporting that McDonagh has been suspended for eight-months for clashing with his opponent at the weigh-ins for the bout which was on the Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury undercard at the Manchester Arena. The light-middleweight has reportedly accepted the ban, despite the unanimous reaction being that the punishment is too harsh, when many more serious, high-profile incidents have been dealt with less severely.

McDonagh, fighting under the MTK Global banner, is now 40-years-old. He is on an amazing eleven-fight win-streak following six consecutive losses. While his ban means he will be unable to compete until May at the earliest, the Galweigan is said to be unintent on retirement just yet.

Check out the incident which has seen McDonagh receive such a suspension in the clip below.

Once both fighters have weighed in successfully and face-off, words are exchanged before the Irishman  escalates the incident by shoving Singleton to the face. What ensues is pure chaos.

Watch out for McDonagh’s comical swigging of a bottle of Guinness once the mayhem has cooled down:
