According to World Boxing News, David Haye and Tony Bellew’s highly anticipated rematch is set to take place this December in London.
Last month, promoter Eddie Hearn seemed to confirm that any hopes of a potential rematch between David Haye and Tony Bellew were essentially vanquished. However, reports are now suggesting that the bout could be announced as soon as next week.
The pair first met in March of this year with Bellew defying the odds and stopping Haye in the 11th round. However, after it emerged that Haye had suffered a severe Achilles injury midway through that encounter, fans have been clamoring for a rematch.
Negotiations looked to be dead in the water last month after Eddie Hearn openly stated that he had given up on getting the rematch made as it was impossible to find a middle ground between the duo involved.
“I don’t think Bellew-Haye will happen. Although there were hugs and kisses in the ring after the fight, trying to get these two to agree to anything is a complete disaster.
“Tony Bellew feels like he got the win, so he should get the benefits of that win, and David Haye feels like Bellew still isn’t on his level.
“When you’re talking about ring walks, who goes first on the poster, changing rooms, splits – all this kind of stuff, it’s impossible.
“I think at this stage, Bellew-Haye II is virtually dead.”
However, according to World Boxing News, there has been a complete ‘u-turn in negotiations’ and they claim that the bout could now be confirmed as early as next week.
An announcement on the second fight could be made as early as next week, with the return likely to head back to the O2 Arena for a date before the Christmas holiday period. – WBN
It’s not quite official just yet but this is certainly hugely positive news for boxing fans after the first Haye/Bellew bout proved to be one of the fights of the year.
