HBO Commentator Perfectly Explains Why Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Makes No Sense

Over the past few days, the whirlwind rumour of Floyd Mayweather taking on Conor McGregor in a boxing match has the world of combat sports swept up in a state of mass hysteria.

If the two ever do face each other, many have predicted that it could well generate more money than any fight in the history of boxing.

Ishe Smith of Mayweather’s ‘Money team’ posted on his official Facebook page over the weekend that he could think of 200 million reasons why the fight should happen, but he would only stick to one; money.

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather makes sense for a lot more reasons than people realise or certainly accept. However, on the flip side, the fight makes absolutely no sense when one starts to think of the outcome.

The fight would be intriguing. The characters involved would perhaps create the best media build up since Muhammad Ali took on George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire. But when it comes to the fight itself, the result would be a foregone conclusion.

Asked whether or not he thought the bout would ever take place, top HBO commentator Max Kellerman dismissed the fight as a ‘sideshow’ and went into great detail to explain why.

“I mean it would do big business obviously but it’s a sideshow because everyone in the world with a brain knows the outcome.

In a boxing ring, Conor McGregor has a zero percent chance to win. In an octagon, Floyd Mayweather has a zero percent chance to win.

I find the lack of respect for various disciplines astonishing. It’s like the people that think ‘oh boxing, I’m a big strong guy, I’ll get in and box.’ No. You won’t. You really won’t.

And the same thing goes for boxers who feel like they can just get in the octagon. It’s a total lack of respect for the discipline. And everyone who can think knows who wins a fight in a different person’s sport. I mean, come on.”
