Matchroom Boxing have today confirmed that Callum Smith will face Rocky Fielding for the vacant British super-middleweight title, on November 7th at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
This fight was inevitable.
With two of British boxing’s most promising prospects inhabiting the same division, and the same city, at the same time, it would have been a tremendous disappointment if they never inhabited the same ring.
Fortunately, boxing politics weren’t going to get in the way of this one as the two men are affiliated to the same promotional team, in Matchroom.
Eddie Hearn, who understands better than most the value of a well cultivated domestic grudge match, has built this fight expertly over the last couple of years, and he is now delivering it at the perfect time.
In June the two men were featured on the same card and each picked up quality scalps. Smith dominated former European champion Christopher Rebrasse, while Fielding looked explosive in putting away tough veteran Brian Vera. These performances clearly signaled that the time had arrived for a long awaited showdown between the pair.
With big names and major titles floating around the super-middleweight division in Britain at the moment, the winner of this fight will put himself in a great position going forward.
This should be an exciting night for the city of Liverpool and for all British boxing fans.
Here are some clips of both men at their explosive best.
