Ireland’s Katie Taylor will face fellow unbeaten fighter Nina Meinke on the undercard of the massive heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium on April 29th.
Taylor was penciled in for a slot on the card quite some time ago, but her promoters Matchroom Boxing only confirmed the identity of the Bray boxer’s opponent today. Additionally, Matchroom announced that the bout will be an eliminator for the WBA lightweight title.

Like Taylor, Germany’s Meinke is still something of a novice professional. She has had five fights, just one more than Taylor, since making her pro debut in May of last year. Her opposition has been modest enough, but she and Taylor share one common opponent. Karina Kopinska, whom Taylor demolished on her maiden pro outing last November, went the four-round distance with Meinke just three months previous. The 23-year-old Meinke has scored just two stoppages as a pro thus far, but they came in her two most recent bouts.
Taylor, who has been very active since making the transition from the amateurs, is just a little more than three weeks removed from a points win over teak tough former IBF title challenger Milena Koleva.
Should Taylor emerge from Wembley victorious, she will have earned a crack at Cecilia Comunales. The Uruguayan began her second reign as WBA lightweight champion when she claimed the vacant title with a TKO win over Valeria Rodrigues dos Santos last June, but hasn’t fought since. That inactivity is nothing new for Comunales, who fought just once in each of the years, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013. The 28-year-old champion is heavy-handed though, having scored nine stoppages in fourteen pro wins. Her sole defeat came via decision all the way back in 2010, when she was but a novice.
