Last night at the TD Garden in Boston, Katie Taylor defeated Cindy Serrano by unanimous decision to retain both her IBF and WBA lightweight titles.
Taylor was the heavy favourite going into the bout and though it went the distance, the Bray native was in control throughout the whole fight, as she took her professional record to 11-0 with another successful title defence.
One man in attendance in Boston last night was former two-weight UFC world champion The Notorious Conor McGregor, who was there to cheer on the plethora of Irish talent on the card including the dominant Katie Taylor.
Following her victory, which was scored 100-90 by all three judges, McGregor posted a video to his Instagram showing him cheering the 32-year-old on, as well as the pair backstage in Taylor’s locker room.
In the video, McGregor heaps praise on the unbeaten Taylor throughout.
“You’re a f**king animal!” begins McGregor.
“You’re nice as pie but you’re ruthless in there, it’s an honour to see you live.
“Just keep doing your thing and I’ll have your back, I’ll always back you, whatever you need. It’s an honour for me to see you live, you’re an Irish hero.
“I’ve a lot of respect for you inside the ring but outside of it too.”
The Notorious One is clearly a huge fan of Taylor and it’s a welcome sight to see two of Ireland’s finest combat sports athletes supporting each other.
