For 40 years of age, Floyd Mayweather’s reactions haven’t slowed a bit.
When analysts, casuals or the dog on the street breaks down Mayweather versus McGregor, and tries to find positives in favour of ‘The Notorious’, the factor of age is likely to arise.
Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old. Conor McGregor is 28 years old (29 on July 14th). ‘Money’ is a retired fighter, at the end of a storied career. ‘The Notorious’ is very much in his athletic prime and going from strength to strength, in MMA. He is fresh off arguably the best performance of his career to date, back in November. Mayweather hasn’t boxed since September 2015. So this is an area where Conor McGregor should feel some advantage. He’ll be sharper and probably quicker than Floyd. Right? Maybe not.
Floyd Mayweather is about as sprightly a 40-year-old as you will see, judging by footage posted on his Instagram today.
The undefeated boxer seems to have lost none of his legendary abilities to duck, bob and weave as he shows off his movement and hand speed on a speedball.
It looks like McGregor may not be able to count on any sort of speed advantage over Floyd Mayweather. Of course, this is just gym work and everything changes once two men step inside the ropes. But for a retired fighter, Mayweather still looks razor sharp.
