Joshua Set To Avoid Both Wilder & Fury In Next Two Fights

I’ve got to speak to the IBF and the WBO and see who goes first. I think it sounds like it’s the IBF,

For those of you hoping to see Anthony Joshua fight one of the heavyweight boxing’s biggest names in his next fight, look away now.

The Londoner is back on top of the world after regaining his heavyweight titles following the defeat of Andy Ruiz Jr in Riyadh on Saturday.

Having won back the IBF, WBA and WBI belts thoughts have already turned to his first title defence, however, it won’t be against either Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury much to the dismay of fans around the world.

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed to Sky Sports that the boxer will face Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria before taking on WBO mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk should he defeat Pulev.

“I’ve got to speak to the IBF and the WBO and see who goes first. I think it sounds like it’s the IBF, but we’ll wait for confirmation of that. AJ will want to maintain the belts and if that’s the case, I think it will be Pulev, and then Usyk.

“I think April or May, that’s a realistic kind of date.

“We spoke to Spurs about hosting this fight (the rematch against Ruiz), which they were keen to do, but unfortunately the dates didn’t work out. They would be keen to do it and it would be a nice stadium to do it in London.”

So it looks as though we will have to wait even longer to see AJ face off against his two biggest threats in the sport. The champion has taken considerable criticism for his failure to fight either man and it would appear that Wilder and Fury are set to meet in February in a rematch of their drawn encounter which was widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight bouts of all time.

The question has to be asked though, at what point do we say enough is enough and make the obvious fights that fans want to see.
