Katie Taylor Secures Title Unification Bout For Paddy’s Day Weekend

It will be a memorable holiday weekend in March as Katie Taylor embarks on what’s sure to be a colossal 2019.

Within her first nine professional fights, Taylor captured both the WBA and IBF lightweight titles.

Having defended them three times in wins over Kimberly Connor, Cindy Serrano and Eva Wahlstrom in 2018, Taylor now has the opportunity to claim a third of four belts available at lightweight.

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that a bout with WBO champion Rose Volante has been confirmed for March 16 in Philadelphia.

The fight will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The news follows the confirmation yesterday that the Olympic gold medallist was rated the pound-for-pound best in the womens’ ranks by BoxRec.

That road to becoming the undisputed lightweight champion will ultimately come down to the WBC belt currently held by Delfine Persoon, but first up is the Volante clash.

Like Taylor, the Brazilian is undefeated, winning eight of her 14 fights by knockout.
