The first of the three bouts headlining today’s massive boxing event in Windsor Park didn’t get off to the best start for the Irish in support.
While it lasted, though, it was thrilling.
Facing flyweight champion Cristofer Rosales, it could be said that the former-Olympian Barnes took the opening pair of rounds. It was certainly competitive through, though, as both men threw down with little regard for feeling each other out.
Some wild flurries kept those in attendance happy but after a solid third-round where both guys had their moments, in the fourth it was the Nicaraguan Rosales who managed to put Barnes away with one-sh0t – a deft punch to the body that crumpled the hometown hero.

Not able to answer the count, the champ was declared the winner – successfully retaining his belt to the dismay of those in attendance.
It was a fantastic fight, all things considered, though, and Paddy Barnes can hold his head high for his gritty and dogged performance.
