Paulie Malignaggi turns 37 today and for that reason, the time seems perfect to take a look at some of his finest moments inside the ring.
Paulie Malignaggi may well be in the headlines for the wrong reasons a lot these days following on from his controversial sparring sessions with the UFC’s lightweight champion Conor McGregor ahead of his boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather back in August, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that he was, in fact, a very talented boxer in his day.
Sure, he managed to rub up the fanbase of an entire sport the wrong way following his constant and very vocal annoyance about how his behind-closed-doors sessions with the aforementioned McGregor turned out but really, despite his persistence, the world as a whole has been ready to move on from ‘the Money Fight’ and all of its glitz and glamour for some time now.
Malignaggi was, of course, a two-weight world champion and over the course of his sixteen-year career faced off against the likes of Zab Judah, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Adrien Broner and Ricky Hatton to name a few and with a record of 36-8, managed to have his fair share of success over the course of what was a very admirable career.
His technique, speed and in-ring intelligence saw him through on countless occasions and in the video below, you can bear witness to some of his finest moments.
