TJ Doheny Comes Up Short In Title-Unification Thriller

TJ Doheny suffered the first loss of his professional career in a thrilling back-and-forth showdown with Daniel Roman in California last night.

The unification of IBF and WBA super bantamweight titles was a showdown between two very evenly matched competitors, who put some serious pressure on each other from the get-go.

Both men certainly had their fair share of memorable moments, with the American Roman scoring a pair of tidy knockdowns – including one particularly rough looking body-shot in the eleventh round, and Doheny – who managed to turn the tide in his favour in the seventh.

In the end, the judges scored it as a majority decision for the hometown hero – who took home two 116-110 scorecards while the remaining judge scored it as a draw.

While not a devastating defeat by any means, this was a fight that either man could have taken control of and Doheny will no doubt be looking to get himself back on track sooner rather than later.

It was an electric contest, though, and neither man left the arena that night with any shame.

Doheny moves to 21-1 after this setback while his opponent Roman’s record now stand at an impressive 27-2-1.
