Katie Taylor Dominates Eva Wahlstrom In Madison Square Garden

Katie Taylor was completely dominant in her first appearance in the world’s most iconic fight-venue, shutting down Eva Wahlstrom completely for ten rounds.

Taylor’s spot on the undercard for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s DAZN debut destruction of Rocky Fielding was always going to be a special one given the event’s Madison Square Garden setting and the strong Irish presence to be found in New York.

Walking out to The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl classic Fairytale Of The New York, the scene was set for what would be a complete shut-out in favour of the Bray-native.

As the bout began, it became abundantly clear that the gulf in quality would be too vast for Finnish boxer Wahlstrom to overcome.

The judges all saw it 10-0 in favour of the Irish boxer after ten rounds had passed and now, it appears as though the victor is looking to step things up a notch.

Speaking post-fight, Taylor expressed exactly how honoured she was to be able to compete in Madison Square Garden.

On top of that, she made it clear that she wants Amanda Serrano next and with that, the opportunity to make her claim at being the #1 lightweight on the planet concrete.

“I thought it was very good performance. Eva is a tough competitor and we prepared for a difficult fight. It is a privilege to fight in Madison Square Garden with all these Irish fans here.”

The goal now is to become the undisputed lightweight champion of the world. Let’s get on with it.” (via The Independent)
