Katie Taylor and her opponent Delphine Persoon have both officially made weight and faced off for the last time ahead of their Madison Square Garden showdown tonight.
Taylor has the opportunity to make her claim at being the world’s best female boxer undeniable by fighting to become the undisputed queen of the lightweight division.
Facing Belgium’s Persoon (43-1), who has not been defeated in nearly a decade, the Bray-native Taylor (13-0) will fight for the opportunity to unify the WBC, WBA, WBO IBF, and The Ring titles in a fight that she herself has declared to be the toughest of her career.
Taylor weighed at 134.6lbs during today’s weigh-ins while Persoon, in a rather surprising turn of events, came in 130.6lbs.
Many are giving the Irish fighter the technical advantage going into this one – so for the size to now play into her hands will no doubt be a massive issue for Persoon.
