Canelo Unifies Titles With Impressive Victory Over Daniel Jacobs

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez turned in another big performance when it mattered last night, beating down Daniel Jacobs in the T-Mobile Arena.

For those who were sceptical of Alvarez’s recent victory over the fearsome Gennady Golovkin, the Mexican superstar left less doubts over who the better man when he came away with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Jacobs last night.

Adding the IBF middleweight title to his growing list of achievements, Canelo handed Jacobs his first loss since a 2017 defeat to the aforementioned Golovkin.

It was competitive, though, make no mistake. Canelo was certainly the more polished and consistent of the two – outlanding him 120 to 89 in terms of power punches.

In the ninth round, Jacobs landed arguably the best shot of the night – a strong left that saw the momentum switch noticeably – albeit just for a moment.

Speaking directly after the fight, Canelo had the following to say about the fight.

“It was just what we thought because of the style of fight that he brings but we just did our job. We knew he was going to be a difficult fighter but thank God we did things the right way.” (via CBS Sports)

Concerning perhaps his most difficult moment of the night, Jacob’s hard shot in the ninth, he insisted that he was in no danger of losing control of the bout.

“Listen, it was a hard shot. It was a hard shot and I went back to my corner but I told them, ‘No big deal, I just want to continue my fight.”
