Ahead of his riveting rematch encounter with Gennady Golovkin this evening, relive one of Canelo Alvarez’s signature KO’s.
And what a beautiful shot it was. Facing the British superstar Amir Khan back in May in 2016, Alvarez made every lb of his size advantage count when he shut down a spirited effort from his opponent with a peach-perfect right-hand.
The Mexican boasts an incredible counter-punching ability but with this shot, he didn’t need much in the way of a bite from Khan to flatten him out on the canvas.
With Alvarez set to rematch Gennady Golovkin tonight, he will find himself in perhaps the biggest fight of his career to date.
The vast majority of those who tuned in to watch their first showdown believed that his Kazakhstani opponent did more than enough to win the fight comfortably on the judges’ scorecards but in a rather questionable turn of events – the fight was, of course, scored as a draw.
That, coupled with the entire controversy surrounding his failed drug test should make for a very hungry Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez when the fight comes about.
