Famed promoter Bob Arum has paid his fighter Tyson Fury an almighty tribute, citing him as the best heavyweight in the world today and one of the best ever.
Arum is a man who has worked with anyone who is anyone within the sport of boxing in the last five or so decades.
Ali, Foreman, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, De La Hoya, Pacquiao and more, he has been synonymous with the sweet science for half a century and now, at the age of 87, is still firmly at the centre of the boxing world.
Arum was interviewed directly after Tyson Fury’s dominant victory over Tom Schwarz last night and was quick to sound off on how impressed he has been with him.
Speaking directly after the bout’s conclusion, the famed promoter explained exactly how Fury stacks up alongside some of the legendary heavyweights he has had the pleasure of working with over the years.
“I’ve been around a long time. And this guy [Fury] is right now easily the best heavyweight in the world, maybe one of the all-time best heavyweights.
“I mean how do you deal with a guy who is 6ft 9in and moves the way he does? He’s something else and something special.”
As for the rematch with Deontay Wilder, which Fury himself promised to his fans post-fight, Arum expressed his huge expectations for the bout from a financial perspective.
“The fight will be in the first quarter of next year.
“Right now, I can’t see why that fight won’t surpass Mayweather-Pacquiao.”
Beating the gargantuan numbers of a fight like may be a bit of a far-fetched prediction but make no mistake, everything from the growing tension to the massive controversy in the scoring of Fury/Wilder I will no doubt see the sequel grow exponentially in every sense of the word.
