Racing Players Give Chris Masoe A Brilliant Send-Off In Final Game

Chris Masoe brought the curtain down on a glittered career yesterday. The 38-year-old Kiwi had announced he would be retiring at the end of the season, so heading into yesterday’s Top 14 semi-final, he knew that if Racing failed to overcome Clermont, then his career would be over.

Unfortunately for himself and Racing, he didn’t get the dream finish to his career that he would have wanted, by meeting Toulon in the decider.

The European Cup runners-up had too much for the Parisian side.

However, Racing did manage to score a late try, and with time up and no prospect of a comeback, they gave Masoe a fitting send-off.

The former All Black back-row stood up to take the conversion, and nailed it!

Ronan O’Gara must view the kicking coach role as not only looking after the out-half at Racing, but indeed the whole team!

It was great to see such respect from his teammates, and despite how big a game was, the side recognised that giving Masoe the final conversion was a fitting end to a great career!
