Updates Provided On Uriah Hall Following Worrying Weight-Cut Issues

The scheduled bout between Vitor Belfor and Uriah Hall was called off today after the latter was transported to hospital.

Both fighters appeared at the official weigh-ins for UFC St. Louis. However, Hall was unable to make it to the scales, falling ill before requiring medial attention.

Belfort’s retirement fight being cancelled the day before was bad enough, but it soon transpired that his opponent’s condition was serious. Strawweight Paige VanZant will appear on the card tomorrow night, and shared her harrowing view on what took place at the venue.

Now Helwani and MMA Junkie’s John Morgan have posted updates on the situation, and it thankfully appears that the middleweight’s condition has stabilised.

Helwani added though that ‘Primetime’ suffered a seizure during his collapse.

Debate has since turned to the new weigh-in system used by the UFC, whereby fighters weigh in on the morning of the day before the fight, before appearing at the showcase weigh-in later that day. Prior to last year, the actual weighing took place at that showcase hours closer to the actual event.

The wisdom of forcing fighters to make weight earlier than before is now being questioned. Khabib Nurmagomedov faced similar issues in the hours before his weigh-in at UFC 209, where he was due to face Tony Ferguson.
