Dana White – “UFC 229 Is Trending At 2.5 Million PPV Buys”

The UFC president has claimed that UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor is trending to absolutely smash the current pay-per-view buy-rate record.

The underpromotion of UFC 229 has been a shame to a certain extent. Apart from a few promos and the odd social media jab, very little has been offered out to the fans to latch onto as the year’s biggest MMA event draws closer.

Thankfully, that is all set to change tonight as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor partake in the first official press conference for the event.

Dana White spoke to ESPN in a recent interview and explained how UFC 229 is still trending to be by far the most lucrative MMA showcase of all-time.

“It’s massive. There has been a lot of talk about this thing doing 2 million buys. We’re trending right now at 2.5 million buys so that’s how big this fight is. The biggest fight we’d ever done was Diaz vs. McGregor at almost 1.6 million pay-per-view buys.

“Then we did the Floyd Mayweather fight. And now this by far is the biggest fight and one of the biggest fights ever in combat sports to be honest with you.”

As for the working relationship between himself and Conor, White made it clear that not much has changed, despite the rather ugly scenes of the UFC 223 media day last April.

“Conor works very well with us. We work well with him. There are certain things you have to deal with Conor McGregor but he’s worth it.

“For example, the New York thing. The fact he thought he could come here and have this beef with Khabib in the middle of New York City and the way that it was done that was obviously the craziest thing.

“Normal, typical stuff for Conor is showing up an hour late for press conferences.”

With Conor set to finally come face-to-face with his Russian rival at tonight’s press conference, we compiled a list of everything you need to know as the biggest fight in the history of the sport comes together.
