According to oddsmaking website OddsShark, Conor McGregor will come into UFC 229 as the underdog for the first time in his MMA career, if the lines hold.
It’s a pretty massive testament to the destructive force that is Khabib Nurmagomedov, to be honest.
At 26-0, who can blame the public for slapping down their hard-earned dollars, pounds, and euros on him as he looks to defeat a fighter – in the former champ McGregor – who hasn’t stepped foot inside the octagon in close to two years.
OddsShark has Khabib listed at -175 with Conor at +145. It’s a narrow margin, yes, but still a telling one considering how favoured McGregor has been in the past with only the boxer Floyd Mayweather coming in as the bookies’ choice.
We all know that ring-rust can be overcome, though, and Conor’s mental game is better than anyone’s so to be honest, it matters little in the grand scheme of things how these pairings are viewed on paper.
