It has been one year to the day since we first saw Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor share the same stage, a meeting that would begin one of the most memorable pre-fight cycles in the history of combat sports.
It was the first and most certainly the most entertaining of all the May/Mac press conferences and today, July 13th, it reached its year anniversary.
Regardless of how you felt about the fight, the fighters involved or the entire spectacle that surrounded it, there was something very special about the first time we watched, waiting for the worlds of MMA and boxing to collide.
And all things considered, the Toronto leg of this world tour did not disappoint.
Many now-iconic moments are to be found throughout and while the subsequent stops on the tour saw the pair lose steam somewhat, the moment they both walked out and finally shared the stage will remain a special moment no matter what.
We all know what happened when the fight actually went down but regardless, there was genuine feeling in the air that something truly unique was happening.
It was nothing to do with the potential for a competitive matchup at the end of it all but instead, the melding of both sports was almost an educational process for both parties – one that will stand as a positive in both sides’ development moving forward.
